Last night's election results delivered a big victory for the British Liberal Party, who won 66.7% of the votes cast, whilst the Democratic Progressive Coalition won just 33.33% of the vote. However the most popular candidate was DPC leader WillShakespeare who topped the poll, winning almost 26% of the votes cast. So why were the results as they were and what does it all mean?

Well it was certainly an easy victory for the BLP who had 15 candidates and 18 votes. They were helped by their strong momentum coming in to election day. As the first party to form they had a head start on gaining members. The fact they were the biggest party would certainly have been a draw for further members and supporters. This abundance of members gave them a superior number of candidates as well as supporters to vote for them.

They're also helped by the incumbency factor. The current interim President, a Liberal, is judged to be doing a generally good job of handling the war effort, and is seen favourably. The same can be said of the Liberal dominated Congress.

The President's quick response to demands for a statement regarding the war, a statement that went down well, showed the Government had a plan and encouraged further faith in the Liberal party to govern.

However, it should be said that the DPC did far better than expected, given how far behind they are in members (they control just 22.8% of the people who are members of a party, with the other 77.2% being Liberals). What this suggests is that the Liberals won due to their large pool of members, but the DPC won over the most swing voters. Liberal membership stands at 17, whilst they got 18 votes. This means they got one vote from a non-member. Whilst for the Progressives, their membership is 5, but they won 9 votes, 7 of which went to their leader, meaning 4 swing voters backed them.

A key reason for this may well be the party's manifesto. The Liberals could afford not to release a plan and still win on the back of their wider die-hard support. They thus had no need to campaign strongly. The DPC won over more swing voters because of their campaign which saw the release of a detailed manifesto, a statement on the wars (more on that in a moment), and a last minute speech by their leader to win support. This gave swing voters who may not be staunchly Liberal or Progressive something to vote for. They may have looked at the DPC's plan and seen that they had policies to improve things, whilst the BLP had released no plan and has no real need to attract swing voters.

Though there will undoubtedly have been damaged done by criticism of the DPC for failing to mention the current wars in their manifesto. This led to demands to release a full plan, which they did. This certainly took the narrative away from where they wanted it to be, focused on their policies and plan to improve Britain. But, their war-plan generally went down well and may have prevented any long term damage by dismissing any suggestions that they lacked a plan or couldn't be trusted with defence.

A mention must also be made about the success of the DPC's leader, WillShakespeare, who single handedly took just over a quarter of all votes cast. That's not to be overlooked, especially as it suggests much of the DPC's popularity with swing voters is down to, in good part, the personal appeal of WillShakespeare. It certainly helps that he was very much a driving force during the campaign and was probably one of the more active and vocal candidates. This will have helped by creating publicity for him, ensuring people knew exactly who he was and what he stood for, and probably also showed he was a passionate candidate.

It must have helped that he was one of only two candidates to have released a presentation. Himself and slymme, who placed joint second, both had presentations, with Mr Shakespeare's being his party's manifesto. It's probably not a coincidence that of the top three candidates, two of them had published presentations.

It must also be considered how much of an influence the policy proposal about making the top voted Congressman Prime Minister (under President and VP) had. Though, we will never know the true extent to which people wanted to see Mr Shakespeare in Government as PM, there must have been some element of trusting him to Govern.

So whilst this was a loss for the DPC, it will be a result, most likely, welcomed in Mr Shakespeare's speech, expected this afternoon. This is because they outperformed all reasonable expectations, and, for the DPC leader personally, his placing top was a victory. The BLP will, however, be delighted with it's big victory.

Both parties have things they need to do if they wish to ace the next election.

For the BLP, if they want to hold on to a large victory next time around, then they must reach out to swing voters. Whilst currently there is no need to due to the BLP's large membership, the DPC will have plenty of time to grow grassroots support between now and next election, and the BLP may need to win over swing voters to hold the same margin next time around. To do that, it may be worth them stealing some DPC campaign tactics in the form of a manifesto and speeches. But, overall, things look very upbeat for the BLP. They could probably not appeal to swing voters and still win the next election, provided they maintain their membership.

For the DPC, this will be seen as a good sign. They know they won swing voters, so the way to win the next election will be to start a groundswell of the grassroots. WillShakespeare's personal result may also provide much need confidence in the leader, which will certainly help in any leadership contests. If they want to win the next election, they need to target Liberal members and try and start defections. As long as they use the same strong campaign tactics (and the party should be commended for it's good campaign, which clearly succeeded in winning over swing voters) then they will continue to win marginal voters, but they need Liberals as well as pragmatic voters to win.

Good luck to the new Congressmen.

We're expecting a speech from the DPC leader later on and will bring it to you as soon as we can.

About the game:

USA as a world power? In E-Sim it is possible!

In E-Sim we have a huge, living world, which is a mirror copy of the Earth. Well, maybe not completely mirrored, because the balance of power in this virtual world looks a bit different than in real life. In E-Sim, USA does not have to be a world superpower, It can be efficiently managed as a much smaller country that has entrepreneurial citizens that support it's foundation. Everything depends on the players themselves and how they decide to shape the political map of the game.

Work for the good of your country and see it rise to an empire.

Activities in this game are divided into several modules. First is the economy as a citizen in a country of your choice you must work to earn money, which you will get to spend for example, on food or purchase of weapons which are critical for your progress as a fighter. You will work in either private companies which are owned by players or government companies which are owned by the state. After progressing in the game you will finally get the opportunity to set up your own business and hire other players. If it prospers, we can even change it into a joint-stock company and enter the stock market and get even more money in this way.

In E-Sim, international wars are nothing out of the ordinary.

Become an influential politician.

The second module is a politics. Just like in real life politics in E-Sim are an extremely powerful tool that can be used for your own purposes. From time to time there are elections in the game in which you will not only vote, but also have the ability to run for the head of the party you're in. You can also apply for congress, where once elected you will be given the right to vote on laws proposed by your fellow congress members or your president and propose laws yourself. Voting on laws is important for your country as it can shape the lives of those around you. You can also try to become the head of a given party, and even take part in presidential elections and decide on the shape of the foreign policy of a given state (for example, who to declare war on). Career in politics is obviously not easy and in order to succeed in it, you have to have a good plan and compete for the votes of voters.

You can go bankrupt or become a rich man while playing the stock market.

The international war.

The last and probably the most important module is military. In E-Sim, countries are constantly fighting each other for control over territories which in return grant them access to more valuable raw materials. For this purpose, they form alliances, they fight international wars, but they also have to deal with, for example, uprisings in conquered countries or civil wars, which may explode on their territory. You can also take part in these clashes, although you are also given the opportunity to lead a life as a pacifist who focuses on other activities in the game (for example, running a successful newspaper or selling products).

At the auction you can sell or buy your dream inventory.

E-Sim is a unique browser game. It's creators ensured realistic representation of the mechanisms present in the real world and gave all power to the players who shape the image of the virtual Earth according to their own. So come and join them and help your country achieve its full potential.
